Celebrating Korean Parents’ Day at the last session of Korean Culture School

The Korean Culture School spring semester class, run by Asia Families (Founder and Executive Director, Grace H. Song) for Korean adoptees and American adoptive parents, ended on May 8th, 2021.  

At the closing ceremony held on Zoom, children gave red paper carnations to their parents and celebrated Mother's Day for the United States, and Parents’ Day, which is on May 8th every year in Korea. They expressed their gratitude for their adoptive parents who have cared and raised them with love.

About 160 people, including 63 adopted children, 68 parents, and 28 volunteers, participated in the spring semester, which has been held online since February.

At Korean Culture School, participating children and families learn basic Korean language and Korean culture through various games. They also learn K-pop dance, Korean cuisine, and crafts. On the day of closing ceremony on May 8th, children learned how to make origami, taught by the teachers from Paper Village Hangeul School (Principal Myung Hee Kim).

The Korean Culture School operates with the support of the South Korean Ministry of Education.

아시아 패밀리스(Asia Families, 대표 송화강)가 한인 입양아와 미국인 양부모들을 위해 운영하고 있는 ‘코리안 컬처 스쿨’ 봄학기 수업이 지난 8일 마무리됐다.

줌으로 열린 종강식에서는 입양어린이들이 빨간 종이 카네이션을 양부모에게 직접 달아주며 한국의 어버이날과 미국의 어머니날을 함께 기념하면서 ‘온 마음을 다해 길러주는 양부모에 대한 고마움’을 표했다.

지난 2월부터 온라인으로 진행돼 온 이번 학기는 한인입양어린이와 청소년 63명, 양부모 66명, 봉사자 28명 등 약 160명이 참여했다.

참가어린이들은 기초 한글 교육과 한국 문화를 다양하고 흥미로운 게임을 통해 배웠으며 매달 K-팝 댄스, 한국요리, 공예도 배웠다. 8일 종강식 날에는 종이마을한글학교(교장 김명희) 교사들의 지도아래 종이접기를 익혔다.
