ASIA Families' 'Korean Culture School' Semester Ends

ASIA Families (Representative Grace Hwakang Song) held a scholarship award ceremony at the  First Korean Presbyterian Church in Rockville on May 10th, 2025 to mark the end of the spring semester of the 'Korean Culture School.'

Scholarships totaling $4,000 were awarded, including $1,000 each to three Korean adoptee students graduating from high school this year (Kara Gothert, Matthew Moore, and Arden Manson) and $500 each to two volunteer award recipients (Aidan Chang and Katie Hwang). The scholarships were sponsored by advisor Chan-soo Kim, Mr. and Mrs. Won-gyun Hwang, Lee Brothers’ Ms. Chun-ok Lee, and Hansan Construction CEO Jin Keun Song.

At the adoptive parents session that day, CEO, Grace Song and adult adoptee Christina Wickham discussed the current adoption laws and regulations in Korea.

After explaining how the process is changing and how it might change the way adult adoptees find and succeed with their birth families,  they led the discussion.

There was also an event where adopted children gave paper carnations to their adoptive parents to express their gratitude, made by members of the Legio Marie at the St Paul Chung Catholic Church in Virginia, in celebration of Parents’ Day in Korea and Mother’s Day in the U.S. The students of Selahart (Director Kim Jung-hee) gave a celebratory performance of drums and K-pop dance.

Meanwhile, ASIA Families is planning to visit Korea this year with 25 adult adoptee volunteers and is also looking for companies or individuals interested in sponsoring the event.
